What To Expect

Junibacken
Story Train - Take the train into the world of fairytales and stories

All aboard the Story Train! Dive straight into the magical world between the pages of the storybooks! You’ll meet Madicken, Emil, Karlsson and others on an enchanting journey between a Swedish summer of fairytales and stories and the roaring Karma Falls. Fabulous, exciting and a little sad – exactly as Lindgren's stories are. The Story Train was the last text that Astrid Lindgren wrote and, if you listen to the Swedish version, it's Astrid herself you’ll hear on the loudspeakers.

Junibacken´s exhibitions - play and explore

Junibacken is full of magic – and most importantly: you can create the magic yourself! Come and enjoy the spectacular pecularities of Villa Villekulla, take a ride on Pippi’s horse and play with friends old and new in Storybook Square. Come dressed for play and don’t worry about making a mess! Junibacken’s installations and exhibitions are all about letting children discover the magic that can be found between the pages of a book, so get in there, start exploring and enjoy your time together.

Theatre - amazing, realistic and magical

Going to the theatre can be an enchanting experience. Exciting, unreal and fantastic. Junibacken has its own theatre and create their own theatrical masterpieces from writing the scripts and composing the music to set design and costumes. With up to seven shows a day to see, you'll be spoilt for choice!

It was a very nice day...

It was a very nice day with the family and we had a lot of fun
Overpriced!

A bit overpriced ! Generally, a nice and joyful place for children. Mostly appreciated, I suppose, by those children who have read the related children books - the chance is quite big though! Otherwise nice scenery and a short train tour, nothing spectacular, in a global perspective. A really nice book store! There's no book you can't find there! A cafe-restaurant with great views though a relatively small terass for the crowded days and, no place, in the restaurant itself for child activities, so that parents can take a cup of coffee or tea without taking their eyes from their children! Furthermore there's a too small stroller parking-site since you can't take the stroller with you inside the museum but without any locking devices. Pity that it's impossible for the accompanying parents to take their exhausted and now-sleeping-child inside the cafeteria for a moment of rest!
Good for younger kids

Overall, this is a well laid out play zone for younger kids. Our 9 yr old was on the cusp of being too old for all of the activities.

Ages 2-7 seems to be the target age here. If you have kids at age, they will love it.
Expensive.

It is expensive literally. It is ok for whoever lives around the area and makes an annual ticket.. but for the visitors or tourist is definately too expensive.
The thing which is the main attraction is the Train wagon. This was very carefully made and is top the Kids. Actually my son got a little scared at some point (he was 2 years when we went).
The blocks room is a total Chaos... i mean some kids lobe building and others like demolishing. Ours likes demolishing so after he demolished every built in the room i had to pull him out before arguing with all the parents...
the other rooms are not the very best at all beside the top one where there is the house and all.
We spent a good 3 hours i think. The kid enjoyed it and it was ok.
Overpriced fun...

This museum is really meant only for small kids. The story train is incredible, however, it only takes 10 minutes. And that’s really about all there is to do there. For nearly 60 euros I would have expected a little more. The bookshop was nice, but nothing special. I am glad we saw it, but I would never go back here again. I really am disappointed by how little there was to actually do.

Overall we spent less than an hour here and that includes time on the terrace for a coffee.
